Aireys Inlet Heritage Garden

Nestled in the heritage precinct of Aireys Inlet, just a short walk from Split Point Lighthouse and the Bark Hut, this newly created garden offers a quiet counterpoint to the area’s characteristically wild, undomesticated landscapes.

Built on sand dune sediment rather than clay, the site’s coastal conditions shaped every planting decision – salt-tolerant native and indigenous species were selected to thrive in the sandy ground while echoing the surrounding bushland. These plantings are paired with a more structured, English-garden treatment, creating a considered contrast that suits the recently renovated home’s preserved heritage exterior.

Local materials anchor the design: a seating area built from Aireys sandstone sits beside a rough-sawn native Ironbark pergola. The pergola was built by local builder Daniel of Ecosure. Deepening ways in which to interact with the space – the garden also includes a veggie patch tucked amongst the garden and a fire pit area.
